Why Gilt Seconds

A Workshop Built Around Your Watch

Detailed Assessment First

Every watch is carefully examined before any work begins. We discuss findings with you before proceeding, so there are no surprises.

Documentation Throughout

For major services, we maintain a photographic record from intake to completion, kept with your file for future reference.

Realistic Timelines

We do not rush fine work. Each service has a stated turnaround that is based on the actual time required to do it properly.

Professional-Grade Equipment

Pressure testing uses calibrated dry and wet equipment. Lume work is performed under stereo magnification. Timing is checked across multiple positions.

Clear Communication

We keep you informed at each stage of longer jobs. You're welcome to ask questions — there is no pressure to agree to work you didn't request.

Located in Penang

Our workshop is at 19 Persiaran Gurney in George Town — accessible, with parking nearby. Visits by appointment preferred.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked

How do I know if my watch needs a pressure test?
If you intend to wear your watch while swimming, snorkelling, or diving — even occasionally — it is worth having the water resistance confirmed. Gaskets degrade over time, and a watch rated for 100m at purchase may no longer perform to that standard years later. We recommend testing every two to three years for regularly used sport watches.
What happens during the Complete Restoration Programme?
The programme covers full movement disassembly and servicing, case and bracelet refinishing (if desired), crystal evaluation and replacement if needed, crown and stem assessment, gasket renewal, and final timing checks across all positions. We photograph the watch at intake, during key stages, and at completion. You are consulted before each major phase proceeds.
My watch's lume has gone brown or faded — can it be restored to original?
In most cases, yes. We match the colour temperature of replacement lume to the original specification — cool green for modern sport watches, warm blue for some Swiss references, or the aged cream tone associated with vintage pieces. The old compound is carefully removed and fresh material applied under magnification to preserve clean edges.
Do I need to book an appointment to drop off my watch?
We prefer appointments so we can give your watch proper attention at intake and answer any questions you have. Walk-ins are welcome when the workshop is open, but booking ahead means you won't have to wait. You can call us or use the contact form to arrange a time.
How should I care for my watch between services?
Store your watch away from strong magnetic fields and direct sunlight. Avoid contact with chemicals including perfume and chlorinated water. For mechanical watches, regular wear (or occasional manual winding) keeps the movement in good order. If you notice changes in timekeeping accuracy, bring it in for a check — catching small issues early tends to reduce long-term cost.
Are prices fixed, or can they change after the watch is assessed?
The prices listed are starting figures for each service type. After intake and assessment, we will let you know if the work involved falls outside standard scope — for example, if parts need sourcing or if the movement requires additional attention. No further work proceeds without your agreement on updated pricing.
